Mission Statement

To promote character, growth, and independence through positive reinforcement, social interaction, and individual choice.

Philosophy

The L.I.F.T Center has a unique model for developing adults with intellectual disabilities based on Gestalt, reinforcement, and other learning theories. Our fundamental belief is that these individuals have aspirations similar to all of us, as well as the same basic human needs: security, support, and affection. We treat all participants with respect and kindness. By providing an environment that reinforces positive outcomes, choices and encourages social interaction, we improve their daily functioning skills.

Learning through activity is viewed as the cornerstone of human development. L.I.F.T provides the opportunity to explore materials and interact in a variety of experiences. Our activities are carefully planned and implemented in a personable setting. Participants engage in academic and recreational activities to develop their self-esteem, independence, and problem-solving skills. As everyone learns at different rates and has different interests, our one-to-one and small group setting activities are tailored to meet the individual needs of each participant.
